Open afternoon for Education Week

The theme for this year’s Education Week was “Technology: Create your future” so the focus was on creating solutions using technology (instead of being consumers). We held an open afternoon  and completed STEAM activities. STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths.

Our classroom theme was Where the Wild Things Are.

After reading the story,  students made a wild thing and a wild thing trap using a variety of materials. We had lots of parents assisting with the construction of these items.

Here are some of our creations

There was a Home Learning Matrix sent home for the whole school, where you could select the task of your choice to complete and return to school. 1/2SM were very creative and you can see all of their hard work in the following slideshow.

We had lots of fun. Thanks to all of the parents who were able to visit.

100 Days of School

Life Education Van Visit

We had a visit from Vanessa and Harold the giraffe, in the Life Education Van. We learnt about healthy food choices and sometimes foods. The ‘doctor’ read out some clues and we had to guess which part of the body matched the clue. We put the body part onto the body on the wall. It was great learning from Harold and Vanessa and we discovered many interesting facts about our bodies.

We know how to multiply and divide

During term 3 we covered lots of topics in Maths including multiplication (x) and division (÷).

We made groups using counters and coloured circles. Then we recorded the multiplication number sentences in two ways.

We also wrote multiplication number sentences.

We were introduced to division with the story ‘The Doorbell Rang’ by Pat Hutchins.

Here are the posters that we made for division. We needed to work out how many cookies we were going to have and how many students were going to receive the cookies. We needed to test whether we could share the cookies fairly using counters and coloured circles before we recorded on our posters.
